Increased mixing on a molecular scale between different vaccine adjuvant ingredients, as well as between vaccine adjuvant ingredients and API, can be achieved by formulating suspensions or emulsions of the vaccine adjuvant ingredients; in the process also necessarily increasing the surface free energy of the formulation. It therefore follows, that thermodynamically unstable formulations are not a cause per se, but rather a necessary coincidence of increased immunogenicity of emulsion adjuvanted vaccines.
